“You will teach me the right way to live. Just being with you will bring complete happiness. Being at your right side will make me happy forever.” (Psalm 16:11 ERV)
“All I want is to be happy.” Have you ever heard those words? The notion is that if one could only find happiness then one is made in this life. Well, happiness does mean joy, contentment, satisfaction, bliss, high spirits, cheerfulness… Truly, this is what one wants in life, because it means one has all they need! It may not be that they have all they want, but they have all they need which is why they are content and satisfied.
This state of mind called happiness or joy is what the devil goes after. A lack of joy or happiness, weakens one. It saps strength out of people. One becomes discouraged, irritated, angry, bitter and even suicidal. Without strength, one loses the zest for life. Strength is energy. Imagine a person who has no energy, he can’t do anything because there is no power in him. The bible tells us in Proverbs 17:22, that a merry heart is like medicine but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Imagine that!
Jesus said in John 10:10 that the thief comes to steal, to kill and to destroy. What is he stealing? Your joy!! If the devil can succeed in stealing your joy, he can succeed in carrying out his destructive plans in your life. This is the reason why we must protect our happiness. We must protect our joy no matter what comes our way. It is our responsibility to protect it. We must not outsource it to anyone because no one has been given that power to keep us happy or joyful. In fact, when we do so, it’s those very people we outsource it to that the devil will use to ensure we are always unhappy and miserable.
Being happy and joyful is the switching on of our life’s light bulb. If you say you are in the light, then walk in the light. If you say you are in the light and are constantly unhappy and lacking joy, always having to work yourself up to be happy, always in search of joy, constantly feeling dissatisfied with your life, weary, lacking zeal to pursue or fight for your dream, then it means you are not committed to the light. You need to make a COMMITMENT to walk in the light. Flip the switch!
Being in the light is being in the presence of God, and from the text, we read that being in the presence of the Lord brings complete happiness. Another translation states, “…in the presence of the Lord there is fullness of joy.” If there is fullness of joy, if there is complete happiness in the presence of the Lord, why are you not experiencing it as a believer. Or why do you experience it one day and for the next six days you’re in search of it.
My dear Reader, it is time for us to get committed! Time to get committed to being happy and joyful. Time to get committed to the presence of God. Be dedicated, devoted, faithful, work very hard to remain in the presence of the Lord. Be conscious of your commitment. Understand what it means to be committed and stay there no matter what stands before you. This means we don’t just say we are in His presence, but that others experience His presence in us. Let your light so shine before men that, they glorify your father in heaven.
I pray that you receive the word in this devotional and make a commitment to stay in the presence of God. I pray that joy fills your heart. I pray that peace rules in your heart. Receive a boost of energy from God right now to get you out of whatever situation you may be facing that seems to be draining you of energy, leaving you feeling weary and lifeless. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Enjoy a testimony loaded week!
