JULY 9 – 15, 2017
“They have been following me, and now they are all around me. They watch me, waiting to throw me to the ground. (Psalm 17:11 ERV)
Our fight is not against people with flesh and blood. Those waiting and watching to throw us to the ground are not made of flesh and blood. They are persons without bodies (Ephesians 6:12). Never forget that! However, they cannot carry out their attack without the use of a human being. Sometimes, that human being can be YOU! You against you.
A thought that came to my heart as I read our feature text above is “Thoughts!” The bible says that a man is as he thinks. But that man does not become as he thinks overnight. It’s the thoughts that have been following him. Thoughts he has left unchecked. Thoughts that we sit and watch like a movie and meditate upon over and over again. Thoughts that have followed us so much and have become a part of us that we don’t even notice when we begin the movie in our minds; we just catch ourselves thinking about it.
They become strongholds in our lives. They are just watching, waiting for you to begin speaking them – because you will! Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). And then, drop! You’re thrown to the ground. That’s their goal all the while. They’re negative thoughts! Who inspires them? Those that our fight is against, who are not made of flesh and blood. These are spiritual wickedness in high places, evil spirits, demons, rulers of the darkness in the world, determined to ensure we fail in our life’s journey. It’s that devil who is completely against us successfully completing our mission in life.
Although David was speaking of physical enemies in the text, but our negative thoughts are enemies that harm us even more than physical enemies because they control the flow of our lives, and determine our future. It’s you fighting against you. Any thought that makes you feel depressed, condemns you, makes you feel pity for yourself, makes you afraid, tells you you’re inadequate, asks you when you’re ever going to make a head way in life, tells you you’re not pretty enough, thoughts of hatred, thoughts of revenge, thoughts that you’re not really who God says you are, etc… are negative, evil thoughts because they do not align with the word of God concerning you.
Guess what? These thoughts have power over us! That’s why it seems like we can’t stop ourselves from thinking them or don’t even realize when we begin to think them. And the reason why they have power over us is because we have beliefs that empower them – whether we know it or not. So, what do you do? Check and change the information you’re receiving so that what you believe can change. When what you believe changes, your mindset will change and then your thoughts pattern will align with your changed, renewed mind. These enemies without bodies can’t stand the battle against a changed renewed mind.
Dear Reader, you must fight those negative, evil, destructive thoughts. Don’t give them a chance to breed in you. Don’t get popcorn, settle down on a chair and watch them like a movie. No, don’t do that! Sometimes, we want to watch that movie to see what happens at the end… I know, I’ve been there. But guess what? The more we watch, the more their power is against us, and the more they put on flesh to be manifested in the physical realm. That’s you against you! Don’t do it! Fight them with your renewed mind.
When the Bible tells us to renew our minds with the mind of Christ, it’s not only so we can align with the will of God for our lives, I believe it’s also to enable us fight right; be on the offensive, be proactive and get them before they get you!
I pray that your thoughts will align with God’s purpose concerning you and you will record victories this week. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth! Amen. Enjoy a peaceful week.
