NOVEMBER 5 – 11, 2017
“Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. But Joseph [first] shaved himself, changed his clothes, and made himself presentable; then he came into Pharaoh’s presence.”
(Genesis 41:14 AMP)
When a seed is planted in the ground, it must first die before it amazingly comes back to life. Then, it lets out its roots, so that it can firmly position itself in the ground. The process of going public (the plant shooting out from under the ground) does not happen until the seed has prepared and firmly readied itself in private for the public life.
Before Jesus began His public ministry, He took His time to get ready for it in private. Have you ever wondered why Mary was so confident at the wedding, when she told the servants to go to Jesus and do whatever He told them to do (John 2:5), so that there could be more wine? Well, I believe it was not just because Angel Gabriel had told her that Jesus would be the saviour of the world, I believe Jesus had been privately working miracles.
What you have not learnt to do in private, you cannot succeed at in public.
Every athlete knows that they must train! They must train hard with focus, determination and motivation, if they are going to be winners. The bible does say in Proverbs 22:27, that the one who will stand before kings and not mere men, is the one who is good at what he does; a skilled worker, a diligent person, a well trained person.
In the text, Joseph had been rushed out of the dungeon to stand before the king. However, Joseph ensured he cleaned himself up first! He shaved his beard and changed his clothes. Joseph had been in prison! What was wrong with going before Pharaoh looking the way he did in the prison? If he had gone to Pharaoh that way, he would not have looked presentable before Pharaoh. You don’t present your solution in a shabby manner, it must be appealing. Don’t settle for less than excellence. Don’t rush out there without dotting your i’s and crossing your t’s, because you feel you’re running out of time. Joseph had to be on point to stand before the king. It was an Egyptian custom for men to shave their beard. Joseph presented himself as one fit to stand before the king.
I believe Joseph’s presentation was a statement of “I’m here to stay.” And you know, he never left the palace.
Do you think it was the men who hastily took Joseph to the palace that told him to clean up? I don’t think so. I believe if that was the case, it would have been mentioned. There are specific things mentioned in the bible that are very significant. I believe this information of Joseph first cleaning himself up, in the midst of haste to get before the king, is one.
Do you think the thought to clean himself up, just dropped on him at that moment? Again, I don’t think so. I believe Joseph was expectant! I believe Joseph knew that something was about to happen and had known that no matter what, he had to be presentable. Don’t forget, God was with Joseph, and Joseph acknowledged God in his ways. Joseph had been progressing to the palace since the first dream he had. He had been preparing for the palace. At the final lap, he had to be on point – one shot was all he had.
Dear Reader, be expectant! You’re on your way to the palace! You are about to go public with your solution. You are about to be presented before kings. Are you going to give it all you’ve got and remain positioned in the palace? What do you need to do now? Sit in quietness with the Holy Spirit and let Him prepare you. What are the things or who are the people you have with you now that cannot go with you to the palace. It’s time to shave them off and change your clothes. Put on Christ! Acknowledge Him in all your ways and He will direct your path to the palace.
I pray that your eyes will open up to see the new level the Lord is taking you to. I pray that you will allow the Holy Spirit prepare you to fully take advantage of the coming opportunities, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen!! God bless your week with answers and solutions!
