HOW ARE YOUR THOUGHTS PATTERNED?

APRIL 16 – 22, 2017

“Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.” (‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4:23‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

To see and understand as God does, means one has the same thoughts and attitudes as God.  A man is as he thinks (Proverbs 23:7).  Therefore, to change your life, you must change the way you think, which is determined by the pattern of your thoughts.

We humans think in patterns, and no one goes from one thinking pattern into another as he wills.  Your thinking pattern is based on the shape of your mind (mindset).  The mindset is a fixed mental attitude or disposition that predetermines a person’s responses to and interpretations of situations.  Therefore a person will always have the same pattern of responses to certain situations because his mind is shaped to respond in that way.  It is the reason why we are shocked sometimes that no matter what we say, certain individuals in our lives never seem to get it.  We wonder why they are the way they are. The simple reason is their mindset – the shape of their mind.

The shape of your mind draws the boundary line of your wisdom.  A person cannot be wiser than their mindset.  That is why you can predetermine how a certain individual will respond to certain circumstances.  Our mindset shows the level of our wisdom, which shows the level of our relationship with Christ.  The deeper we are in our relationship with Christ, the wiser we are, and the straighter our path is because we are more submitted to His ways and view life from His perspective, “in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” (‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:6‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

The mindset is like a set boundary.  Imagine if a person is confined to a certain location, and cannot go beyond 300 miles each to the north, south, east and west without hitting a wall.  If you invite that person to a location 300.1 miles west, you know that no matter what, they would never ever be able to get to you.  The only way they can get to you is if the walls are torn down.  This also means that the person does not know what is going on outside of their confinement.  No matter how much you try to describe the shop closest to their boundary line, they’ll never be able to get it.  All they’ll ever tell you about are the shops in their confinement.

What am I trying to say?  Your boundary is your mindset, and you cannot have thoughts outside of that boundary.  So a person whose thinking pattern is in circles, has it that way because the shape of their mind can only allow for circular thinking patterns.  If for example the thinking pattern of Jesus is a straight forward moving line, as that person’s mindset (shape of their mind) begins to change to Jesus’, their circular thought pattern will begin to straighten out, because the new shape their mind is taking can no longer allow for a circular thought pattern.

It is important for us to be aware of and understand exactly what is happening to us as our minds are being renewed to Jesus’.  Otherwise, the confusion will cause us to fight the change.  While our mind outside Jesus is limited and confined, Jesus’ has no limits and is not confined.  That is the reason why Jesus could operate in different ways while He walked the earth; He healed blind eyes by speaking a word, He healed blind eyes by the touch of His hands, He healed blind eyes with His saliva and mud…  He cannot be boxed!  When our minds begins to be change to His, we realise that we also cannot be boxed.

As our thought pattern begin to change, it’s a huge thing happening to us.  Sometimes we can begin to think that something is wrong with us.  Even people close to us can think so too.  I want you to know that it may look like everything is falling apart initially but hang in there, keep growing and just like the seed planted in the ground must die first before it begins new life, after the shaking and misunderstanding, comes new beautiful life.  If we give up too early, it will not allow us to operate at the level God wants us to operate in, and that is allowing Jesus live on the earth as us, and trusting that the thoughts of our heart and attitudes are now being transformed to His by the power of the Holy Spirit.

That is the reason why the most important thing you can do is not to force yourself to think like Jesus, or work hard to behave like a Christian, but to focus on renewing your mind (changing the shape of your mind to Jesus’) so that your thinking can automatically on its own begin to change to His.

My dear Reader, we want our thought pattern to support a continuous onward and forward moving path of living and enjoying the full, rich and satisfying life Jesus came for us to have, a life that overflows to others.  Therefore, we want the thought pattern of Jesus; the mindset of Christ.  We want our thoughts and attitudes to be changed to His, so that we see and understand life from His perspective, which is the way He designed for us to live from the very beginning.

We just had the Easter celebrations.  It means nothing really, if our thoughts and attitudes remain as they have always been.  The purpose of Easter, is so that we can once again begin to live life from God’s perspective.  How are your thoughts patterned?  Change your life today by intentionally engaging in the process of changing your thought pattern to Jesus’ so that you can live life from His perspective.

#MYPRAYERFORYOU

I give God praise for your life.  He loves you and wants the best for you always.  I pray that everyday, you will know how much God loves you and how much He wants you to succeed. And, for that, you will intentionally engage in the renewing of your mind so that you can live and enjoy a successful and prosperous life. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth!  Amen!  Enjoy your beautiful life and an amazing week!
