“When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”” (Luke 5:4 NLT)
When Simon Peter first met Jesus, Jesus stepped into his boat to speak to the crowds of people who had come to listen to Him preach. Afterwards, Jesus blessed him. Peter and his team had toiled all night but caught no fish. Do you know what that meant? It meant that, there would probably be no food to eat, or no money to pay the bills, or pay the children’s school fees… because there would be no fish to sell. Just by catching no fish that night could spiral into deep problems for them and others. What an opposition the devil brings to men! What an adverse situation! Even with his team of experienced fishermen, they could not catch any fish.
Our enemy is the devil, and he will show up in different ways. He could show up in men, in situations or in things. They fight against us. Their focus is to stop us, and hinder our growth and progress so that we are unable to be the people that God has made us to be. More failures and disappointments bring low self-esteem, lack of confidence, depression, frustration, lack of willingness to try again… That devil is a liar!
At Jesus’ command, Peter and his men laid down their net and caught a great multitude of fish! Where did the fish come from? Truth!! Truth delivers us into our inheritance. By truth we shall do great and mighty things. What the Lord said the Holy Spirit would do for us is to lead us into TRUTH! God is Truth!
When Jesus stepped into Peter’s life, Truth stepped in. The truth is that, there was fish in that water all along but they could not catch them because the fish, our prosperity, our peace, our increase, our progress, our advancement, our fulfillment… only respond to truth. When we step out to follow, to obey truth, mighty things happen in our lives. With the help of God, ‘Truth’ we shall do mighty acts of valour. We shall be courageous, fearless, daring, brave, etc. It had to take courage for Peter and his team to go back into the deep waters just because a man – who they had not yet known – told them to do so.
Truth is the light that shines and brings clarity. You know exactly what to do. Clarity is the light that will take you to your destination through the right path. Jesus, ‘Truth’ was very specific and clear in His instruction to Peter, as we see in the text.
Jesus said to Peter to go where the water is deeper. He knew exactly where the fish was. What was the result, they caught a multitude of fish such that their nets were too weak to carry them and they broke. I bet you, they never had a catch like that before. Not even something close to such a catch. What do you think the other fishermen would have said about them? They must have been the talk of the town. What about their families? Transformation! If they had not caught fish all night long, I imagine the other fishermen who helped them with their boat to bring the fish to shore, had also caught no fish. What do you think happened to them? I believe they must have received a share of the fish.
My dear Reader, is the truth you know able to deliver you into your inheritance? Can you see your way clearly to a rich, full and satisfying life based on the truth you know? It does not matter how qualified by the world’s standard you are, or how great a team you have working for you or with you, without Jesus the helper in there, it is all useless. There are people highly qualified looking for a job. There are people highly qualified and still don’t know how to apply the knowledge they have acquired. Let the real ‘TRUTH’ step into your boat.
Take advantage of the help of God today and do mighty works. It is in Him that our foes are completely dismembered! Get on a consistent, intentional, continuous, daily process of changing your thoughts, your attitudes and your mindset with ‘Truth’ and walk in the will of God for your life; receiving clarity to know the right path to follow to live a rich, full and satisfying life that overflows to others.
I pray that every step you take this week, every decision, every judgement, will be that which the Lord inspires, bringing you the victory He already prepared for you. In the might name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Amen! Enjoy a victorious and fruitful week!
