OPEN SESAME

DECEMBER 3 – 9, 2017

“In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.” (‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:6‬ ‭AMP)

If we would know, recognise and acknowledge the Lord in all our ways, He will direct our paths.  Where, I wonder is He directing our paths to?  From Psalm 16:11, we learn that it is God who shows us the path of life.  The path of life is the joys of life, the peace of life… righteousness, prosperity, abundance, success, wholeness… the pleasures forevermore of life.  Jesus said in John 10:10, that He has come for us to have and enjoy a full, rich and satisfying life until it overflows to others.  That’s the path the Lord directs us to when we acknowledge Him in all our ways.

In Luke 17:11-19, the bible records the story of ten lepers who cried out to Jesus to have mercy on them and heal them of their leprosy.  They definitely had heard of Jesus and knew He had the willingness and the power to heal them, even though they were Samaritans.  They acknowledged His power to heal and cried out to Him.  If you do not acknowledge the power of God to make anything happen for you, you will not experience His power.  It is in your place to call out to Him, do not expect that He will make things happen when you have not called out to Him.  Your call out to Him is an indication of your trust in Him.  The verse before our text states, “Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.” (Proverbs‬ ‭3:5‬ ‭AMP).  Some other translations read ‘Trust the Lord with all your heart…’

Jesus heard the lepers cry to Him.  Jesus always hears!  He simply looked at them and told them to go show themselves to the priest.  The custom was that the one who is healed would go to the priest, who will confirm the person was indeed healed.  Jesus asked them to go to the priest without speaking any word of healing upon them or laying His hands upon them.  Sometimes, the Lord gives us an instruction, but because the things that should happen before we can carry out that instruction have not yet manifested, we sit down waiting for that thing to happen first.  We ought to realise that, if He asked us to do step 3, it is because He already concluded steps 1 and 2, and included them in our response to His instruction.  As we move into action for step 3, steps 1 and 2 will unveil themselves. Remember Proverbs 3:5, “…do not lean unto your own understanding.”

As the lepers followed the instructions of Jesus, they immediately noticed they were healed!  I want to believe they got so excited and ran all the way to the priest.  Their lives would never be the same again!  They didn’t have to suffer the pains they felt in their bodies and in their hearts anymore.  They will no longer lose any body parts.

In the midst of their excitement, one of the lepers acknowledged; recognised that Jesus’ instruction contained their healing.  Rather than continue to the priest with the other nine, he ran back to Jesus to acknowledge; show his gratitude to Jesus for what Jesus did.  When you acknowledge God (His presence) in your life, your next action is thanksgiving.  If you are not thanking Him, then you have not acknowledged His presence in your life, and His hand in the situations you face, either good or bad.  The bible did say that it is the will of God concerning us who belong to Christ to give God thanks in all things.  Remember also, that He has instructed all things to work together for our good (Romans 8:28).

Did you ever read the book, Alibaba and the Forty Thieves?  Or maybe watched the movie?  To open the door to the hideout of the thieves, the password “Open Sesame”* must be said.  The door immediately responds to the password and opens up.  That’s what acknowledging God does. Your “Thank you” to God is as “Open Sesame.” Immediately, there is a response to your thank you!  Your thanksgiving leads to victories and greater victories.  As soon as the healed leper went to say thank you to Jesus, Jesus was moved to do more.  Jesus made Him whole!

The implication of His wholeness is that even though the other nine healed lepers were free from the disease, there were indications on their bodies that they were once lepers. Not everybody would accept them!  Some people would see them and run away.  The stigma of once lepers, will follow them for the rest of their lives.  That means they would still have hurts in their hearts because of the treatment of society on them.  The grateful healed leper however, had everything that he lost restored; nothing on him to identify him as a former leper.  Hallelujah!!

What are you waiting for?  There is plenty wholeness waiting to be unveiled and lavished upon you.  That thing you have been expecting to happen since the start of the year, may just be waiting for you to acknowledge God for the little ‘seemingly’ insignificant things that have happened.  Therefore, acknowledge God now!  Acknowledge that He has been present with you all this while.  Even if you didn’t hear Him speak a word to you, acknowledge He was the one who showed you what to do, or stopped you from making a devastating move, or gave you the answer you needed or gave you the simple thought… Acknowledge it was Him who saw you through 2017 till now.  Acknowledge it was Him who caused the medication to be successful on you, otherwise…

Dear Reader, acknowledge it has been Jesus, acknowledge it was Jesus and say “Thank you” to Jesus.  Just like “Open Sesame” that opens the doors of the treasury, watch your acknowledgment and thank you open new and greater doors even in the last days of this year, and watch it, like riding on a flying carpet, swoop you triumphantly into your waiting palace and kings in 2018.

*Open Sesame actually means something that unfailingly brings about a desired end.  Its synonyms are gateway, key, passport, secret, ticket.

#MYPRAYERFORYOU

I pray that you will acknowledge the presence of God in the small things and the big things in your life.  I pray that you will recognise His hand in your life and thank Him always even when it does not look like anything to thank Him for.  I pray that you will experience greater testimonies in your life as you thank Him, because thanksgiving leads to greater testimonies.  In the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth I pray, Amen!! Let the acknowledgement begin!!  Have an amazing week!
