I sat still after a movie ended at the cinema, just taking my precious time to lounge a little while and also wait for the crowd to rush out like they usually do.
With nothing really interesting happening around, I fixed my gaze on the giant screen and browsed through as the roll call of the people I like to call the hidden performers scrolled through.
So I thought it would be interesting to recognize a new or two. The list went on: Writers Producers Directors Cinematographer Photography/cinematography Film or Picture Editors Sound Designers Casting Director Unit Production Manager Assistant Directors Location Managers Key Production Assistant Production Accountants Publicists Production Designer Art Director Publicity Designer Key Makeup Person Key Hairdresser Set Costumers Set Decorators Director of Photography Camera Operators
Continuity Stills Photographer Documentary Videographer Gaffer(lighting designer) Electrician Mixer/Recordist Location sound engineer Key Grip Other Grips Etc
While I recognized no one, I felt a proud moment when I saw an indigenous name and thought ‘o! that’s my homie’.
Well as I savored that moment, I thought about how very little known some of these people are. People who actually make things happen behind the scene and help create the great moments behind movie cast nominations and awards.
As my thoughts went on, God began to speak to my heart.
Not everyone in life will get the upstage roles, not everyone will be the limelight of the world, not everyone will stand in front of a pulpit on Sunday morning. We all won’t get the loud ovations or the glory and praise that come with some roles in church or life at large.
Some are given assignments and roles in life that support the success of others. Some are the pillars way deep down in the ground that hold up the glam and celebrated lives of other people or institutions.
Some are called by God to stay still like Moses and others like Aaron and Hur holding Moses’ hands up, while the Joshuas of life are out on the battle ground.
Some will never be publicly recommended or awarded any special recognition for the work they do.
Yet the production will never be complete without the input of all of us. The curtains will never be pulled back, the words will never be heard, the sounds will never scream out, the crowds will never gather and the ovation and all the glory will never come to pass!
God has called each of us to play different roles on the stage called life!…and each member of God’s production crew is given a gift and called/ordained to perform a unique and vital role.
Just because you don’t play the lead role doesn’t mean your part is paltry.
Even though you’re not the ‘face of success’ in your field of labor; your role is important and you should regard it with utmost pleasure and pride!
We ought to permit God to shine through your commitment to whatever tasks He’s assigned to us, upstage or behind the curtains.
We have to stay conscious of the fact that our individual paths in life are connected to get us all to a common destination – the fulfillment of His purpose.
We need to learn to appreciate one another; to cheer each other along and celebrate our successes in life.
“For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly” ~ Romans 12:4-6
