NOVEMBER 12 – 18, 2017
“And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it; and I have heard it said of you that you can understand a dream and interpret it.” (Genesis 41:15 AMP)
I like to play Candy Crush… One thing about some of these games is that each level unlocks to you as you conquer the level before them. All the levels are available from the start and waiting for you to get to them, but you must unlock them by conquering the levels before them. It’s the same thing with life; all you ever need or will be in this life is available to you, but you must unlock them by conquering each level of growth from stage to stage; if you are faithful in little, you will be faithful in much.
We generally call Joseph, ‘Joseph the dreamer,’ but interestingly, from the text, the skill that took Joseph to the palace was not dreaming but the interpretation of dreams. Although it all started from him dreaming. Before he was sold into slavery, the bible only records Joseph having dreams. There are no records of him interpreting dreams, not even his own dreams. In fact, it was his brothers and his father, Jacob who interpreted his dreams (Genesis 37:8,10). However, as Joseph walked with God, God prepared him to be positioned in the palace. The Lord not only helped him unlock the skills he required to stand before the king in the palace, He also helped him develop the character that will keep him positioned in the palace.
I believe that when we offer ourselves up to God to prepare us for the life of greatness, the first thing He focuses on is the development of our character, before the release of our potentials. If we try to do it on our own, we will focus on the release of our potentials first. Figuring life out on your own never ends well, even if it may look good at the start. Haven’t you seen or heard of very talented people who seem to be or were ruined by their great talent, because they displayed very poor character?
Anyway, I mentioned earlier that I like to play Candy Crush. Do I need to explain what Candy Crush is? Maybe not, I’m guessing you like to play the game too. Moving on… as you journey through the game, you are rewarded with some perks to help you unlock the next levels. These are the goodness and mercy that follow you; the favours attaching themselves to you to ensure you get to your destination. These perks can come to us in various forms, including human perks. I believe the Baker and Butler were Joseph’s perks.
They helped Joseph test his skill of the interpretation of dreams. They were the ones that helped Joseph unlock his next level – The Interpreter of Dreams. Some perks can be used only once, and some perks stay with you to unlock more levels. The purpose of the release of the Butler was so that he could help Joseph unlock his next level – The Prime Minister of Egypt. Your perks to help you unlock your next level are already in position waiting for you to get ready to receive their advantage.
We never hear of the Butler again after his job of announcing Joseph to Pharaoh was done. Although we read that he forgot Joseph until Pharaoh had his dreams, I believe the timing was right! If he had remembered Joseph earlier, of what use would that have been when there would have been no demand for his solution. The more demand there is for what you have to offer, the more valuable and relevant you are.
I remember when I discovered my solution. After some time of growing it and growing in it, I was ready to hit to road but the Lord stopped me. He clearly told me if I hit the road as I was, I would not be able to handle it after a while. Then, He began to develop in me the character I needed to deliver my solution. The process can seem a slow one sometimes, but let God do His work in you… you will come out perfect, entire, wanting nothing. That is exactly what He is doing in this time of transition.
God wants to promote you with the abilities He has given you. He knows the exact skills He has put in you, that will make you sought after. He knows exactly how they will be released and exactly when they should you be released. He has said it is time for them to be released, so, keep company with Jesus (Matthew 11:28-30 MSG). Keep growing the character to handle and deliver your solution. It is time to get good at it. You know some areas where you fall short. Don’t settle anymore for serving who you are in a less than excellent way, because in this next level, less than excellent will not keep you before kings. Ask God to help you fill the gaps, He is more than willing to help you unlock your potentials.
Dear Reader, when God was done with molding Joseph, Joseph went straight from the prison to becoming the Prime Minister of Egypt. Allow God mold you Himself in this time of transition. He does not just want you to stand before kings in the palace, He wants the kings to bow down before you.
I pray that you will humble yourself under the mighty hand of God so that He can exalt you to the place where He dreamed you to be. I declare that your steps are ordered this week, on the path of your greatness, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen!! Enjoy a fruitful week!
