“For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against persons without bodies…” (Ephesians 6:12 TLB)
What is life? One thing for sure is, life involves fighting! We are constantly in a battle, whether we know it or not. Why are we still on the battlefield when Jesus has won the battle for us? You may be asking. Yes, Jesus has won the battle for us and as a result of His victory we are in our victory parade. However, we have to fight to remain in our victory parade.
The text clearly let’s us know we are in a fight when it states, “For we are not fighting…” However, our fight is not as we would think. It is not against the flesh and blood that the enemy uses to launch his attacks at us, our fight is against wicked spirits, forces that we cannot see. And guess what their strategy is? Their strategy is to keep us in a fight against one another.
They know they do not have power over us, because we are created as highly superior beings than them, and so they make us fight against ourselves by causing us to be provoked out of love as a result of the attacks they launch against us through other human beings. Once we step out of love by responding to these attacks in a way that does not align with love (1 Corinthians 13:4-8), we step into a hard place – just as it happened to Adam and Eve when they were driven out of the Garden of Eden.
We are love beings! We were created to love. Only in love can we function right. Even faith expresses itself through love (Galatians 5:6), and without faith we cannot get anything done (Romans 1:17, Hebrews 11:6). No wonder Jesus said in Matthew 5:23 that before giving an offering, we are to go and make things right with anyone we are out of love with (either they offended us or we offended them).
We must understand that we are in a fight, we must understand what our fight is about, and we must learn how to fight right! I didn’t know that I was in a fight. I was living a pretty simple peaceful life until I began to search for the peace. What happened? I wondered. It took me quite a while before I realised that whether I am prepared or not, whether I like to fight or not, I must prepare for a fight and I must fight. More than that, I must fight right! Ephesians 6:14-18
To fight right, I must know who I am fighting against, I must know the kinds of weapons they use, I must know my weapons, I must understand how my weapons function and how they take out their weapons. And, I must understand why I am in a fight. Why is anyone fighting me? What do they want? Who are they? How much power do they have? Am I more powerful than them?
Our fight is and has never been against human beings, even though it’s human beings we physically see as our attackers or haters, our fight is against the evil that has taken a hold of them and is using them against us. If we focus on fighting the human beings, we don’t get any victories, instead we get troubles. It may look like victory but the problems arise again, maybe with another human being. If we recognize that our fight is not against human beings, we will go on our knees and pray for them because the enemy’s plan is also to destroy them. And that dear Reader, is a huge blow to the devil.
Dear Reader, you cannot afford not to fight. Life puts us in a fight. There’s no one free from the fight. You must simply learn how to fight and fight right! As you fight, you must recognize and keep before your mind that you are fighting in your victory parade. We are fighting to keep ourselves in the parade Jesus came to get us in. We are fighting to keep ourselves in the place of love.
It’s time to dress up fully and fight (Ephesians 6:14-18). Forgive your brother or sister or friend or anyone you’ve thought was your enemy attacking you. Forgive them so that you can fight right. Know that no matter how hard the fight is, these persons without bodies are not, have never been, and will never be more powerful than you, you can take them out successfully. Now wipe those tears, get rid of the sighs, stop running from place to place for solution, stop wishing you had someone else’s life, stop the pity party and rise up, dress up and fight!
I declare in the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth that this week will be an amazing one for you. Go ahead and fight right your God stands with and for you!!
