“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4:13 KJV)
We very commonly quote or hear others quote Philippians 4:13. Sometimes, we say some things without really knowing or understanding what they mean. Most times when we quote the text, we say it to mean “put anything on my table and I am able to do it!” Is this what the text really means? Sometimes, we hear people confess and confess it while pushing and pushing themselves through (actually suffering through) a task, situation, condition or project. If this verse literally meant ‘we can do EVERYTHING’ then too many of us do not know what faith is, because we’re not seeing ourselves do EVERYTHING.
There’s a story in the bible, that I believe will be very explicit in helping us understand this text better. It is found in Matthew 25. A master was going on a journey and gave talents to three servants; he didn’t give them all the same number of talents. It is very important to note what Jesus mentions while telling the story. “To one he gave five talents [probably about $5,000], to another two, to another one–to each in proportion to his own personal ability. Then he departed and left the country.” (Matthew 25:15 AMP)
Jesus mentions that the master gave each servant talents in proportion to his own personal ability. In other words, He gave each servant what he knew they could handle. The servants with five and two talents invested their talents and both got 100% increase. If the second servant could produce an increase of 100% just like the first servant, why did the master not give him more? If the master had given him three instead of the two talents he gave him, I bet you, he wouldn’t have produced 100% increase.
Everything the first two servants were supposed to do to yield 100% increase, they were able to do, because they were working with what they had the ability for. To prove that the second servant would probably have yielded less if he was given more by the master, the master didn’t give him the one talent that was taken from the servant that didn’t produce anything. It was given to the first servant who had been given five talents. Why? He was given that extra talent because he had the ability to handle more.
We are effective at what we have been enabled to do. Sometimes you find people excelling so well at a particular kind of job and think they would do great as well in some other kind of job. They make the move and boom! Their career begins to take a downward spin. All of a sudden the lady that was full of zeal and drive, does not feel energized to get up and go to work and probably becomes a terror to those she works with.
We cannot do everything that comes our way, we can only do those things that God has energized us for; those things Christ strengthens us to do. We can only do those things we have been wired, designed from birth to do. If you realize that you can’t find the drive or push to do some certain things, it may just be that it is because God has not energized you to do them. So, leave them alone!
In the implementation of any system, the manufacturer must specify what the system can do; what the system is designed to do. This is called System Specifications. And, no matter what you do, the system can NEVER, EVER DO what it was not designed to do.
I am very creative with business ideas and I know how they can be executed. I tried executing some and found trouble. I never found the energy to execute. This made me feel like one who never finishes anything, until I finally accepted the truth about me; identified and accepted what God has energized me, enabled me to do – my system’s specifications. I have the ability to CREATE business success solutions, IDENTIFY in others their business success solutions and TEACH/TRAIN/COACH on successful execution. I love to see others, especially women emotionally and financially empowered.
Dear Reader, as you get ready for the coming year, make up your mind to focus on the specifications of your system. This means, you must use this time to identify and accept your abilities as you were designed and enabled. Don’t let anybody tell you what you can or cannot do. Let the Holy Spirit lead you to the truth about who you are. He led me to the truth of who I am, helping me discover me; I am so excitedly passionate about what I do. The Holy Spirit is so ready to also lead you to understand what God has created you to do.
It is time to find your passion and burn passionately to get it done. If you burn, kings will come from afar to watch you burn. And, they will come bearing precious gifts.
I pray for you that the voice of the Spirit of God will be greater than any other voice in your life, helping you live the life you have been created to live. Be energized, be passionate, be strengthened! In the mighty name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen! Enjoy an excellent week!
